College Football Lone Star Conference Comes To Life

Football is here, and the Lone Star Conference is ready to showcase some of the best Division II football in the nation.

This past weekend was the first weekend of the season and did not disappoint. Permian Basin rallied back from a 14-3 deficit against Western New Mexico to win 42-38. Quarterback Jacky Parada Jr. threw for 358 yards and three touchdowns, while running back Kevontae Burns rushed for 125 yards and two touchdowns. Permian is now 1-0 on the season and will host Eastern New Mexico next Saturday.

Angelo State had a tougher first game, losing to FCS Sam Houston 44-13. The Rams were led by quarterback Zach Bronkhorst, who threw for 187 yards and a touchdown. Angelo State will look to bounce back next Saturday when they host Oklahoma Panhandle State.

West Texas A&M had a bye last week but will open their season this Saturday at home against UT Tyler. The Buffs are ranked No. 1 in the Lone Star Conference preseason poll and are looking to make a run at the NCAA Division II National Championship.

The Lone Star Conference is one of the best Division II football conferences in the country and is sure to provide plenty of excitement this season. With several teams ranked in the national top 25, the conference is sure to be competitive from top to bottom.
